    Jiemin Yan

    Prof. Jiemin Yan is an Erhu soloist and Doctoral Supervisor of the Central Conservatory of Music. She is the first person in China who has aquired double bachelor’s degree in both Chinese Folk Music Performance and Composition. She is also Vice President of Erhu Society of Chinese Musician’s Association, Vice President of Huqin Professional Committee of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, Visiting Professor at Xi’an Conservatory of Music as well as Visiting concertmaster of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.

    Born in Hangzhou, she startet learning music at the age of 6, and entered the Primary School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music at the age of 10, where she has successfully studied under Professor Dacan Chen and Professor Yi Wang. She has graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music with highest honors, where she studied Erhu performance and composition respectively under Professor Guitong Wang and Professor Zhenmin Xu. She has got the first prize in the National Junior Folk Instumental Solo Competition in 1982, the second prize in the Erhu Youth Professional Group of ART Cup Chinese Instruments International Competition in 1989, and honorably frist place in the Taipei International Chinese International Concerto Competition in 1994.
